Background of Speakers: 

Erik-Jan de Boer, Animation Director of Rhythm & Hues Studios
Erik-Jan de Boer is an Animation Director for Rhythm & Hues Studios in Los Angeles, California and has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. His work includes character animation and visual effects for commercials, feature films and theme park rides. Erik-Jan will presents about his recently directed FX work on "The A-Team" and his current work on "Life of Pi" for FOX studios with Ang Lee directing.

Erik-Jan started his career at the Moving Picture Company in London in early 1989. In 1993 he moved from Senior Animator at MPC to become Head of 3D Animation and Special Effects at one of Europe's most prestigious Post-Production houses, Rushes Plc.

In 1996 Erik-Jan joined Rhythm & Hues where his credits include the Bafta and Academy Award winning epic "The Golden Compass", the Academy Award nominated "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe", "Night at the Museum", "Cats & Dogs", "Stuart Little", "Babe : Pig in the City" and Disney's Animal Kingdom show "It's a bugs life".

Erik-Jan was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and holds a Masters Degree in Image Synthesis and Computer Animation from Middlesex University, England and a Bachelors in Image and Media Technology from the Utrecht School of the Arts (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht).

Casper Peeters, CEO of Xsens
Casper Peeters is CEO of Dutch technology company Xsens. He is one of the founders of the company in 2000 and lives in Los Angeles for a year to expand the North American operations of the company. He will talk about motion capture and how Xsens’ technology is used to create lifelike character animations for video games and feature films such as Alice in Wonderland and Iron Man.

Xsens is a leading global supplier of 3D motion tracking products based upon miniature MEMS inertial sensor technology. Since its inception in 2000, several thousands of motion sensors and motion capture solutions have successfully been deployed in areas such as 3D character animation, rehabilitation and sports science, and robot and camera stabilization.

Customers include Electronic Arts, Sony Pictures Imageworks, INAIL Prosthesis Centre, Daimler, Saab Underwater Systems, Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and many other companies and institutes throughout the world. Xsens’ research department has created unique intellectual property in the field of multi-sensor data fusion algorithms, combining inertial sensors with aiding technologies such as GPS and RF positioning and biomechanical modeling.
